Same sex marriage, rainbow colors & Jesus!
Have you ever loved someone so much that you enjoyed staring at them? Maybe like me, you find yourself memorizing their features, fascinated by how they use their hands to talk; enjoy the inflections in their voice; capture in your mind those expressions; savor that unique and special gait. If so, you probably do everything you can to share as much of your daily life with that person as you possibly can.
You know what? I feel this way about Jesus. I love Jesus. I love getting to know Jesus in this same intimate and personal way ... Observing how He says things, what He says, when He says them - why He says what He says! I love spending time talking to Jesus and being with Jesus. I love sharing daily life with Jesus. This might be where I lose, you but please bear with me a minute. I understand you may not feel the same way about Jesus. I didn’t always love Jesus so much. And, I didn’t always believe that God’s Word was absolute truth – infallible, inerrant, God breathed. But, the more time I spend time with Jesus by carefully reading the whole of the word of God, the more I love Jesus – Who by the way is God (1). The more time I am in the very words of God, the more I am convinced of their absolute truth and authority over my life. When I read about His love for the world, His character, His power and I learn how He is oh so very faithful and full of grace and mercy – well, it takes my breath away and I am left in awe and wonder of Him. It is only natural that I would want you to know my Jesus and want you to discover in His Word the same things I have discovered for myself. Surely you would be blown away and left breathless in wonder.
When I declare I cannot agree with same sex marriage it is not because I don’t love those who do agree. It’s because I love Jesus and I know how much He loves you and me. It is because I believe and trust in the very Words of God written down, preserved and kept for us to treasure, cherish, read, keep and share. It says: Jesus created all things and all things were created through Him and for Him (2). As Creator, I have to go with what He says about marriage and sex. He is very clear in what He says on these subjects. His design and plans is beautiful and I want everyone I know to discover what He says – the same way I did…hanging on His every word – carefully observing everything He says. Maybe, just maybe in getting to know my Jesus and listening to what He says, you’ll be delighted to discover there is absolute truth.
I realize there is much being said on this subject. So, who am I and why would anyone care to listen to me or about my opinion? Good question and I don’t know. But, if you are still reading, let’s touch on the rainbow colors. Since I believe Jesus created all things and all things were created by Jesus and for Jesus, I am excited to share he created the rainbow and its colors. Did you know that during the time of Noah, God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every intention of the thoughts of man’s heart was evil continually and the Lord regretted that he had made man. Fascinating story! It can be found in Genesis 5-9. After the earth was destroyed by the flood, God made a promise to Noah. A must read at: Genesis 8:21-9:17! The sign of this promise is the rainbow. God says: “When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant … when the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant….” (3) Of course, when I see the rainbow colors, I remember this story and why there is a rainbow thus rainbow colors. As I have seen the pictures of the rainbow colors projected on the White House, Empire State Building, and other prominent places, it saddens me because I remember what God said so long ago about regretting that he had made man and why He said it.
But wait! Jesus loves us so much He left His throne in the heavens, confined Himself to the body of a man and humbled Himself to the point of death on a cross (4) and He did this when we were ungodly sinners, His enemy and helpless to do anything about it. In contrast, we can have a personal and intimate relationship with Jesus! We can be declared right with God and be saved from the wrath of God (5). I could go on and on listing marvelous truths. Instead, I'll close with this: Because we believe in Jesus, we can know His Word and have conviction, strength, and power to walk according to that Word. I cannot get my mind around why Jesus would want to share my daily life here and share every day for all of eternity with me, but He does and I’m clinging to Him, what He says and His ways. I fail, I forget, I have way too much to learn, and all I know for certain is I love Jesus, I love His Word and with every fiber of my being, I want to walk according to that Word. Regardless of whether you agree with me or disagree with me, I speak these truths to you in LOVE.
