Riding the wave
I’m going to be honest here and share that my emotions have been all over the place this past week. And guess what? I feel guilty that my emotions are all over the place. I mean I’ve been taught God’s Word, I know God’s Word, I know how to take up God’s Word and speak it to my heart/mind/emotions. And yet… I’m riding a big emotional wave right now.
Emotions are powerful and they are real and it still amazes me that you can know and believe truths from God’s Word and at the same time experience overwhelming sorrow, hurt, and emotional pain. There are those days when these emotions cannot be denied, swept away, or hidden. So, what do you do?
You hang on. You ride the wave.
Interestingly, while riding this emotional wave, it has been time to create some social media posts for my book “Self-Talk” in which I say you can find the tools and develop the skills need to manage your mind and emotions. Each time I type those words, my self-talk says: “Ha!” But then I correct myself by reminding said self that we have to find the tools and develop the skills needed to use the tools … over and over again. It’s not a one-time thing because life has many new emotional waves that seemingly swamp you. Ride the wave.
Maybe you are like me and find that the emotional roller coaster is real and difficult and when the ride is the wildest…you need help hanging on to the truth you know or need help to discover the truth you don’t yet know. Or maybe you are riding that emotional wave laying flat on an emotional surfboard, clinging to it for dear life, spitting water and you need help reaching the shore.
I understand. I really do. That’s why I want to encourage you to grab a copy of “Self-Talk” and take time this summer to discover why you tell yourself what you do and determine if what you are telling yourself is the truth. In the process, I pray you will find the tools and develop the life skills needed to mentally manage your mind and emotions during the wild ride called life. Why not gather some friends and go through the workbook together. A free leader’s guide can be found at https://sallyhhall.com/resources.
I promise you this isn’t about selling books. I just know life is hard and I want to help.
Bless you!
