Diverse and Different

We the people today. We the people tomorrow. You know, Presidents and politicians come and go but we the people remain. Years from now when Lord only knows who will be running the country, we’ll all still be trying to do the best we can each day to care for our families, neighbors, and communities. The daily struggle will still be real. So, “we the people” will continue to NOT look to the government to help us out but rather “we the people” will still be the ones helping our neighbors in small and large ways, caring for our elderly, babysitting, and thousands of other acts of kindness. It’s “we the people” who will be giving to and volunteering at organizations that help meet the needs of those around us and the world because that’s what “we the people” do. It’s “we the people” who suit up in a variety of “uniforms” to serve “we the people” in selfless ways. And, “we the people” will be just as diverse and different then as we are now.

It’s a glorious thing that we are free to be diverse and different.

Today, the end of election days is about us shaping the America we each want to live in. We decide because “we the people” are free to believe and do as individuals. Free to go to cast our vote for the people who best represent our values and dreams for the future. We live in an amazing republic* (note my choice of word). Our founding fathers were geniuses. I would say they had been given wisdom from God. But as an American, you have the ability and right to say and believe something different!

It is a glorious thing that we are free to be diverse and different.

It’s not so glorious when our diversity and differences divide us in such a way that we hate each other and can no longer show tolerance for one another.

You know what? No matter who wins this election or what party gets a majority in the house, “we the people” decide what the future culture of America will be. The government cannot divide us unless we want to be divided. We not only decide who will lead us but we ultimately decide where they will lead us. The America we have and want is on - “we the people” – US! You and me.

It's a glorious thing that we are free to be diverse and different.

So, what can and should unite us when we are so diverse and different? Let me suggest we look to the rights granted to us under our constitution. Let’s remember and keep our “pledge of allegiance to our Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." These are unifying ideals set before us as goals to work toward, achieve, protect, guide us all...together.

Are we there yet? No! But that’s on us. We’ve got work to do so let’s “huddle up” and get busy. Let’s make America glorious!
