I see God

I see God

Our church had a bluegrass band come and sing gospel songs. I’ve never seen fingers move so fast and I’d never heard a song called “I see God.” As they sang this beautiful song, I remembered a time before Christmas when I looked out on the lake but all I could see was a single beautifully shaped leaf stuck to the window. At that moment, I saw God.

I haven’t always seen God in the things around me. I’ll even admit that I haven’t always desired or looked for God in the things around me.

Even in my reading or studying of God’s Word my focus was on me, what I needed and wanted more than it was on seeing or knowing God. I realized this while listening to a sermon by Charles Stanley entitled “A passion for God.”

The word passion here means loved and enjoyed so much that it was most important in time, attention, and enjoyment. It shocked me to realize that I could not say I was passionate about God. I loved Him. Truly.

I treasured His Word but was I passionate? No.

I remembered how sad this realization made me because if I truly loved God and His Word, shouldn’t I be the MOST passionate about Him? In my sorrow, I began asking (praying) that God would give me a passion for Him. Do you know how He answered that prayer? He gave me a passion for His Word. As this passion grew within me, my focus shifted from me to Him and as I grew in my knowledge of Him, my passion for Him was ignited. I never want to go back or lose this passion which means I have to ignite the fire of passion often. How?

Loving God means being in an intimate and passion-filled relationship with God through Jesus. In a sin-ridden world, these words have lost their true meaning and beauty. But getting to know the Creator of all on a personal and intimate level is well… mind-boggling and blowing! Why? Because you begin to see God in everything. This verse takes my breath away and fuels the passion.

“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” Colossians 1:15

For in Jesus, all things were created through Him and for Him. In Jesus, all things hold together. That leaf stuck to the window. I see Jesus holding it there and I delight in seeing Him at work. Look around you. Based on these verses is there anything you see that wasn’t created for Jesus and that He is holding together? Pause, look, and marvel at it. See God.

He is showing us Himself. Isn’t that mind-blowing?

Sweet friends, the more we know God through knowing His Word the more we will see Him in all things. Each other, the birds, the sky, the moon, the sunrise, the clouds…everything.

Getting to know Him is the worthiest passion. Just ask for it.
