Oh joy.
A few years back, we were traveling on a Ferry, when I turned to see this boat trying to dock. I seriously chuckled and then quickly tried to capture it before it was out of my frame. Why? Well, check out the boat’s name and while you probably can’t tell, let me assure you Ms. Joy was worn and banged up and puffing some pretty black smoke!
To me, this was such a picture of the “joy” we have as believers in Christ. I mean, my situations and circumstances often leave me worn, banged up, and even struggling as…evidenced by the puffing of black smoke but…
There is joy. The two don’t look like they go together, do they?
As a believer in Christ, it’s an amazing reality. I literally can be struggling…even grieving deeply…and yet have joy. Be hurting or sobbing from the depths of my soul, and yet be okay. Have strength, peace, hope, and assurance…when all seems lost. I know I’m not explaining it very well. All I know is there is joy to be experienced in these worn out, banged up, puffing black smoke moments because I have a relationship with Jesus.
My faith in Jesus + God’s Word = the ability to find rest, peace, and even joy…no matter my circumstances. I might be worn, banged up, struggling, and puffing along but this I know…Jesus is with me. He will never leave or fail me. His love fills and surrounds me. His joy gives me the strength to face the trials and obstacles with courage and faith for He is God and he is good. I remember the joy of my salvation, the joy set before me. You know what? Faith + God’s Word = Joy.
