Be nice!

This is a word of advice from an old woman. Me! Be nice. Don’t think more highly of yourself than you ought to.

Be respectful of those in authority. Especially law officers. Every day they work to protect us from evil people and let’s face it…there is a lot of evil out there these days.

Sure, there are bad law officials. Just like there are bad business people, family, neighbors, politicians, etc.

But let’s stop lumping ALL people groups in the bad apple bunch. Especially law officers. We need them. So let’s respect them regardless of whether you or I think they deserve it.

My unsolicited advice? If you get pulled over, roll down your window, place both hands on the steering wheel and do exactly what you are asked to do. Speak only to answer a specific question and end your yes/no answers either with sir or ma’am. There is no place for getting snarky, objecting/disobeying/arguing. You are not going to win and that behavior can land you cuffed and/or in jail.

Remember, every time you are stopped that officer is putting his/her life at risk. They have no idea who you are, if you have a weapon, are on drugs, have a warrant for your arrest and the danger list they might face is long.

It is never in our best interest to resist an officer of the law. Before you think I don’t understand because I’m not a minority, please think again. I’m in an extremely vulnerable and historically looked down upon group called female.

Let’s not let our fears override common sense. It makes no sense to disrespect or argue with an officer of the law.
