Happy New Year!
Southern tradition holds that the first food to be eaten on New Year's Day should be black-eyed peas for luck and prosperity -- specifically, one pea for each day of the year. To really ensure a good year, add a mess o' greens for wealth!
I’ll not adding greens but I’m about to put the peas in the pot with onions and diced ham. Oh yeah, and the ham hock . I may or may not add a can of Rotelle later.
I am looking at this mess of peas and say each pea and see blessings and provisions from God during the past year. In good times and bad. So who needs greens? What could the onions, ham, and Rotelle represent? How about this: Life with God is always good. Taste and see that the Lord is good! (Ps. 34:8)
Happy New year you wonderful people. Asking the Lord to bless you this year in ways only He knows and can and in doing so you will be in greater awe of Him and He will be brought much glory!
