Stormy weather
A few days after I wrote the below, Texas experienced massive flooding and loss of lives. Most sad, were the children attending a Christian camp. The below truths can be really, really hard to swallow if you do not know the full character of God and then trust in His full character. Each of His characteristics or attributes operate together. I do not claim to understand His ways or have answers as to why things happen the way they do. What I can say is what God says and trust He is good in all His ways.
We’ve had significant storms and rainfall. From our new view we can watch the dark clouds roll in, shoot forth lightning, pour out rain and hear the loud roar of thunder.
Weather patterns are just a way of life, aren’t they? We hear about jet streams, El Niño, La Niña, hurricane season and tornado alley. Popular thinking is that it’s Mother Nature at work.
As I continue my study of Jeremiah, I was challenged in my thinking about weather. Oh, I know (and love) Scriptures that the lightning reports to Him and that He has storehouses of rain and snow, etc. I mean I believe God is soverign over all. But …
Last week when I read Job 37:10-13, I realized my thinking had drifted. While yes, weather is just part of life, God has a purpose in it and I needed to remember this and keep remembering. I mean weather isn’t just ho hum…another weather event. Quite the contrary. God says…
“Whether for correction, or for His world, or for lovingkindness, He causes it to happen.”
Weather moments should move me/us to acknowledge our Soverign God, be filled with awe, wonder, praise and even repentance, if needed.
As hail hit our window this morning, it was like God was tapping on the glass saying…I am here, I am doing this, I am over all, nothing is it of my control, I have a purpose and a plan for everything that goes on around you and My world. Nothing happens by chance. Not even the weather. “Whether for correction, or for His world, or for lovingkindness, He causes it to happen.” Job 37:13
My response? Yes, Lord! Forgive me for my ho humness concerning the weather!
Here is the whole passage that impacted my thinking and heart. Let me know your thoughts. Okay?
Job 37:10-13
10 From the breath of God ice is made, and the expanse of the waters is frozen.
11 He also loads the clouds with moisture; He disperses the cloud of His lightning.
12 It changes direction, turning around by His guidance, that it may do whatever He commands it on the face of the inhabited earth.
13 Whether for correction, or for His earth, or for goodness, He causes it to happen.
